Abruzzo tourism
To discover Abruzzo and its ancient landscape, follow the atmospheres lived and singed from two greats of the Italian literature , Ovidio and D’Annunzio, myth and legend , sons of this country. The itinerary begins, amongst olive-trees faced the Sea ,from the imposing S.Giovanni in Venere abbey of the XI century, erected in place of a pagan temple dedicated to the goddess of love ,and we continue along the indented coast-line , where still resist on the sea water the Trabocchi, ancient fishing machine made of wood. Going through the shore-side we reach to Pescara, where D’Annunzio haus , buildet in the place where was a powerful fortress, recalls to glamorous memories of a town young and dynamic , beating of passion and culture , an ancient river-port.Left the sea breeze , we continue to the mounting side of the Region , meeting S.Clemente a Casauria abbey , a magnificent temple of the Benedictine art, and we reach in Sulmona,a jewel-city for the history and ancient atmosphere. In this historical city places and legends relate about the born , the fame and the poetry of Ovidio, one of the greatest poets of the Latin’s world, while the squares and the buildings recall to surprising splendours. The last stage is a way out of time, left the Valle Peligna it enters in the Sagittario Gorges. The road will take you from Anversa degli Abruzzi, to Scanno, land of shepherds and authentic traditions , where the time seems to be stopped. A walk along the lake shore and amongst the fragrant very little streets of the village, will let you meet old ladies in traditionary clothes , making their best in the precious and difficult art of the pillow-lace and secular goldsmith shops where are forged singular jewels , and you will know the reason why Scanno was loved from D’Annunzio.
